history

Geestineth belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Altluneberg. Around 1500, however, the residents were still parish in the Beverstedt parish. The place also belonged to 1768 to the district of the aristocratic court Beverstedt. During the short French period around 1810, Getesteth was part of the Ringstedt municipality in the canton of Beverstedt. Further affiliations existed from 1851 to 1859 to the Beverstedt office, from 1885 to 1932 to the Geestemünde district and from 1932 to the Wesermünde district (incorporated in the Cuxhaven district in 1977). The village became a rural community in 1840 and a district in 1876 . Originally it was planned that the municipality should remain independent as a member municipality after the territorial reform in 1974. To do this, they would have had to form a new joint municipality with Wehdel, Köhlen, Frelsdorf and Wollingst, but this did not happen because of the lack of local interest. Therefore, on March 1, 1974, Geemmeneth was incorporated into the new community of Schiffdorf.

The local home attendant is Gerhard Albohm.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Geestineth comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Albert de Badrihaye , who designed around 80 coats of arms in the district of Cuxhaven.

Coat of arms of Geiestereth
Blazon : "Under a silver shield head coveredwith two blue crossed keys, six golden ears of corn arranged in a fan shape ."
Reasons for the coat of arms: The keys are borrowed from the coat of arms of the Bremen cathedral chapter , to which Archbishop Friedrich donated the tithe in "Gestensethe" around 1120. The six ears of corn remind us that around 1500 the village consisted of six farms.
