history

In 1300 the village of Colne was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the Count of Woldenburg; That is why Köhlen celebrated its 700th anniversary in 2000. The village was established as a village hoof settlement by aristocratic locators as early as the 12th century. The 18 courtyards retained their circular arrangement around a central square for a long time.

In 1635 the Köhlener school was established. In 1712 a teacher could be employed. The dispute over the Reformed and Lutheran schools took place from 1748 to 1872.

The Mary Magdalene celebration is celebrated annually on July 22nd as a day of praise to commemorate a storm that destroyed the harvest in Köhlen in the 17th century during Mary Magdalene Day .

Incorporations

On January 1, 2015, Köhlen formed the new city of Geestland with the other municipalities of the combined municipality of Bederkesa and the city of Langen .

Coal coat of arms
Blazon : "Covered in gold over a black kiln with the golden letter" K " , on the right and left a green, upright two-leaf oak branch with fruit ."
Justification for the coat of arms: The charcoal pile with a "K" indicates the name of the community. The oak branches are reminiscent of the former oak forests.
