history

The first documentary mention can be found for the year 1091. Imsum actually referred to a parish comprising several villages, consisting of Brinkamahof, Dingen, Lebstedt, Weddewarden and Weddewarderbüttel. The common Bartholomäuskirche in Imsum was built in 1218 between Dingen, Lebstedt and Weddewarden and is known as the Ochsenturm after it was demolished in 1895. The associated peasantry Lebstedt is in the Christmas storm surge on 25 December 1717 went down in the river Weser.

From 1793 to 1819 Imsum was subordinate to the Vogteigericht "Alten Landes Wursten" and then until 1852 to the Vogteigericht "Landes Wursten". During the French period around 1810, the villages belonged to the Wremen commune in the canton of Dorum for a few years . In 1840 Imsum received the status of a rural community, which from 1852 to 1885 belonged to the Dorum office. The Imsum district of the same name was formed in 1876. From 1885 to 1932 the community belonged to the newly formed Lehe district and later to the Wesermünde and Cuxhaven districts. In 1927, however, the district of Weddewarden (excluding Weddewarderbüttel) was changed to Wesermünde and the ceded parts of the Imsum district were renamed Weddewarden in 1957. In addition, school sovereignty and church supervision was lost to Bremerhaven. In 1954 Dingen, the only remaining part of the municipality of Imsum, had to be renamed Imsum.

The ox tower was a landmark . It is open to the public and offers a unique view of the marshland and the Weser estuary. As a symbol of the village, the tower can also be found in the local coat of arms. Imsum had a stop on the Bremerhaven – Cuxhaven railway line until 1975 . Today, line 509 of the BremerhavenBus provides a regular connection to the neighboring city.

Incorporations

In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, the municipality of Imsum lost its political independence and became a locality of the unified municipality of Langen .

On January 1, 2015, Langen merged with the municipalities of the Bederkesa municipality to form the new city of Geestland.
