history
Historically, Holßel belonged to the Debstedt Börde and the Bederkesa office . During the French era around 1810, Holßel belonged to the Neuenwalde commune in the canton of Dorum for a few years. The community later moved to the Dorum office (1852–1885) and then to the Lehe district (1885–1932), Wesermünde district (1932–1977) and Cuxhaven district .
The village received the status of a rural community in 1840; the district of the same name was formed in 1876.
Place name
According to the regests of the Archbishops of Bremen , Vol. I, the village of Holßel was mentioned as early as 1280 and was called “Holselo” or “Holcelo” in the old writings .
Incorporations
Holßel joined in 1971 as a member community of the joint community of Neuenwalde, which was dissolved in 1974 with the reorganization of the communities.
In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, the place became part of the municipality (later the city) of Langen . On January 1, 2015, this merged with the municipalities of the Bederkesa municipality to form the new city of Geestland.

coat of arms
The design of the municipal coat of arms of Holßel comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Albert de Badrihaye , who designed around 80 coats of arms in the district of Cuxhaven. At the council meeting on July 9, 1963, the decision for this coat of arms was made.
Blazon : "In silver over a green hill coveredwith an erect silver shepherd's shovel ,two rooted green fir trees ." | |
Foundation of the coat of arms: The village is mentioned in a document in 1280 as "Holcelo". The firs indicate the meaning of "lo" = wood. The hill is reminiscent of the situation Holßels on the edge of the Geest ridge of Hohenlieth and the shepherds blade on the formerly very important sheep farming . |
Culture and sights
Buildings
- The church, which is basically medieval, was named after St. Jacob and is now called the "Evangelical Reformed Church". The tower was built in 1896. A special feature is that Reformed pastors have been active in the parish, which today belongs to the Evangelical Reformed Church, since the Reformation, while the surrounding communities belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover . A bar of writing inside the church names the year 1111 as the year of construction. In July 2011, Holßel celebrated the 900th anniversary with a village festival and a church service. (On this occasion (God = alone the honor) was titled "Soli Deo Gloria" a commemorative publication with historical and current contributions : Literature see ).
