The meat bank is a 2186  m above sea level. A. high summit in the Wilder Kaiser in Tyrol , which slopes down into striking cliffs made of Wetterstein limestone on all sides . The mountain belongs to the municipality of Kirchdorf in Tirol .

location

The meat bank is a 900 meter long, north-south oriented, massive ridge that slopes down to the Steinerne Gully with walls up to 350 meters . This separates the summit on the east side from the Predigtstuhl . To the west is the Totenkirchl , which can be reached from the meat bank via the Winklerscharte and behind it a large rock basin, the Hohe Winkel . In the south, after the Fleischbankscharte, is the Christaturm , followed by the Hinteren Karlspitze . In the north it falls deeply over the north ridge with the meat bank pillar to the Kaiserbachtal valley .

Routes

The meat bank, especially its east side, is one of the famous climbing mountains in the northern Limestone Alps . Here there are climbing routes that have made alpine history, such as the east face ( difficulty level VI-) from 1913 by Hans Dülfer , the south-east face (VI +) by Fritz Wiessner and Roland Rossi , and the jewelry fireplace . The starting point for numerous easy to difficult climbing tours is the Stripsenjochhaus of the ÖAV . Upstream of the meat bank to the north is the 1749  m high meat bank pillar with also some very difficult climbing routes, such as the Pumprissen (VII) and one of the most difficult alpine routes, The Emperor's New Clothes (X +) by Stefan Glowacz from 1993.

Today's normal route (mostly used as a descent) runs above the Steinerne Rinne just below the Ellmauer Tor (north side) to the west of the marked route, branching off first over a scree field on a path (approach) to the east face of the Hinteren Karlspitze and there through a gorge-like channel (Herrweg, markings and bolts, II, longer point III +) up to Grasschrofen and easier walking terrain and over a notch on the south side past the Christaturm on its back (west, Christascharte) and from there on a good trail to the south-west side of the meat bank summit structure. The Schöllhornrinne (II), via which the summit cross is reached, begins here. It takes about one and a half hours from Ellmauer Tor to the summit.

Alternatively, the entrance to the Schöllhornrinne can also be reached from the Hinteren Karlspitze in difficulty level II. To do this, follow the ridge north-west from the summit cross of the Hinteren Karlspitze towards Winklerscharte (ridge towards Totenkirchl ) until clear traces of foot traffic lead down on the north side over a scree terrace and a rock channel down to the connection route Fleischbank - Winklerscharte, via which the entrance to the Schöllhorn channel is reached (initially over rocks , the rest of the way from below the Christascharte on a good climb). Time required from the summit cross of the Hinteren Karlspitze to the summit about one and a half hours.
