Florence Millet

Florence Millet (* 1964 in Brussels ) is a French pianist and university teacher living in Germany.

Millet studied at the Paris Conservatory (degree summa cum laude ) and completed her education at the State University of New York under the direction of Gilbert Kalish and Charles Rosen , where she also received her PhD. Other teachers were Paul Badura-Skoda , Leon Fleisher and Peter Serkin .

With the cellist Darrett Adkins and the violinist Katie Lansdale , she founded the Lions Gate Trio , which has been active for over thirty years and has recorded the entire piano chamber music of Ludwig van Beethoven , Robert Schumann , Johannes Brahms , Gabriel Fauré and Franz Schubert , among others . Between 1992 and 2000 she was also a member of the Ensemble Intercontemporain , and from 2012 to 2018 artistic director of the Cité des Dames series . Her interest in new music led to intensive collaboration with composers such as Elliott Carter , Hans Werner Henze , Luciano Berio , Johannes Schöllhorn , Philippe Manoury , Jörg Widmann , Steve Reich , Henri Dutilleux , George Crumb and Tristan Murail .

As a concert pianist, Millet received prizes at the William Kappel and Bösendorfer Empire competitions and played recordings of classical piano literature ( Robert Schumann , Franz Liszt , Fryderyk Chopin , Franz Schubert ) as well as contemporary music ( Elliott Carter , Oliver Knussen , Mark-Anthony Turnage , Heinz Holliger and others). In addition, she organized readings, moderated concerts, radio productions and interdisciplinary programs with the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and the actors Bernd Hahn and Bernd Kuschmann .

Millet has held a professorship for piano at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 1998 and is chair of the piano commission. She gives international master classes in Europe, America and Asia.
