Florencio Coronado Romaní
Florencio Coronado Romaní CSsR (born May 23, 1908 in the Caja District , Acobamba Province , Huancavelica Region , Peru ; † September 5, 2006 in Lima ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Huancavelica from 1956 to 1982 and the author of a Quechua Bible translation published in 2002 appeared in Chanka-Quechua .
Life
Florencio Coronado Romaní grew up in a village environment in the province of Acobamba, bilingual with Spanish and Quechua . As a child he got to know the Catholic missionaries of the Redemptorist Order from France , who traveled as traveling preachers through the villages of the Peruvian Andean highlands. When he was fourteen he left home to become a missionary.
After an initial training of priests in Peru, he was sent to France and received on 18 September 1938 in Belgium , the ordination . He then returned to Peru, where he worked as a pastor in various villages in the Andes. In 1954 he was appointed diocesan administrator in Huancavelica . On April 22, 1956, his predecessor in office, the then Peruvian military bishop Carlos Maria Jurgens Byrne CSsR, donated his episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Teodosio Moreno Quintana , Bishop of Huánuco , and Otoniel Alcedo Culquicóndor SDB , Auxiliary Bishop in Chachapoyas . On March 1st of the same year, Romaní was appointed Bishop of Huancavélica, a position he held until his resignation in 1982, as provided for by canon law at the age of 75.
During his time as bishop he devoted himself to the translation of the entire Bible into Chanka Quechua, as it is spoken in Huancavelica , as well as the missal and the Roman ritual . The text collection Janacc Pacha Ñan ("Heavenly Path "), a catechism in Quechua, supplemented by popular Christian song texts, found the most widespread distribution among the faithful . He completed the Quechua Bible translation only after giving up his bishopric in collaboration with his successor William Dermott Molloy McDermott and the Quechua priest Alberto Barbosa , with whom he moved to Huanta . In 2002 his translation of the Bible appeared in a bilingual edition with the Spanish text from the translation El libro del Pueblo de Dios . Striking feature of his Quechua text is based on the Spanish spelling, in which the in Spanish phonology unknown Quechua phoneme / q / ( voiceless uvular fricative [ χ ] in Ayacucho Quechua, in most other variants voiceless uvular plosive [ q ] ) consistently rendered with "cc".
In January 2005 he received the Medalla de Oro de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo in recognition of his work . He stayed in Huanta until shortly before his death in 2006.
