Florian Burkhardt (2015)

Florian Burkhardt (born March 13, 1974 in Basel , pseudonym: "electroboy" ) is a Swiss model , author and composer .

Life

Florian Burkhardt is the son of Hildegard and Peter Burkhardt, the former Vice Director of the Federal Aircraft Factory . After graduating from high school, Burkhardt graduated as a primary school teacher in a Catholic boarding school in Zug. Initially he devoted himself to professional snowboarding . He was a co-founder of Radio 3fach , created the first Swiss snowboard magazine Independent in 1993 and then worked as a freelance editor for the highest-circulation snowboard magazine in German-speaking Europe, Board Generation . He is seen today as a snowboard pioneer.

Burkhardt then moved to Los Angeles , where he was signed by an agent and trained by Ivana Chubbuck and Robert Easton . An article in a film magazine resulted in jobs as a photo and catwalk model, which laid the foundation for his unexpected modeling career, which later led him to the catwalks of Milan , London and Tokyo . He had contracts with Wilhelmina Models , Boss Model Management and Why Not Model Agency and worked for labels like Prada , Gucci , Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana and photographers like David LaChapelle and Albert Watson booked him for their projects.

After he had finished modeling, he moved to Zurich , studied multimedia design in 1999 and worked as a concept designer at ROSA, the hottest internet agency at the time. He designed portals for, among others, SRF , Migros and Cablecom . His project, emotionstimulator , grew out of his collaboration with the agency and was one of the first to bring videos to the Internet, which earned him a reputation as an Internet pioneer. In 2001 he was already suffering from anxiety psychoses, which made a stay in the Psychiatric University Clinic in Zurich necessary and which have dominated his everyday life ever since.

From 2004, Burkhardt organized electroboy parties in which the visual and art should play at least as big a role as the music itself. The events developed into elaborate festivals and Burkhardt was voted “ Organizer of the Year” in Switzerland in 2005 . He also founded Kommerz , a newspaper for electronic music and carried out the first Swiss Electronic Music Awards (SEMA). He also started producing electronic music himself and released five CDs (see discography).

Burkhardt is seen as "representing a pronounced narcissism and a generation that let off steam in the hype of the Internet boom and techno parties". In 2004 he published the book STOP , a collection of observations and thoughts.

In 2006 he disappeared from the public scene. Since his health was not good, several attempts to pursue gainful employment failed. With the small disability pension, he moved to Berlin , where life is cheaper than in Switzerland.

In 2009 Burkhardt was the founder and artistic director of Cabaret Voltaire in Berlin. He then retired to Bochum for three years and then returned to Berlin. He has been active as a visual designer since 2013.

He produces bold, vector-based graphics that he prints on acrylic sheets with silicone paint. He also produces high-quality clothing in short runs. In November 2014, the documentary came electroboy of Marcel Gisler about Burkhardt's life to the Swiss cinema. In November 2015, the film also opened in Germany and Austria.

At the beginning of 2016, he switched to the social project Surprise Magazin , where he published his monthly column until 2018 under the name "Marginal Note". In 2017 his first novel, My Mother's Child, was published by Wörterseh-Verlag . The novel The Weight of Freedom followed in 2018 by the same publisher. In the same year Burkhardt and Lunik producer Luk Zimmermann released the single “Nur eine Maschine” as “electroboy.ch”. In June 2019 Florian Burkhardt withdrew from the public as an electroboy with the mini-album “Das fgende Spaghettimonster”, a party and an exhibition .

In 2020 Burkhardt begins to publish music as a songwriter under his own name .
