action

A DEA agent is murdered in Marseille while attempting to infiltrate a drug ring. Jacques Brizard, the boss of the ring, has good contacts with representatives of politics who have been able to protect him from persecution so far. The head of the DEA in Paris, Steve Ventura, no longer sees a legal way to put Brizard down. He decides to hire a hit man to kill Brizard.

French inspector Briac arranges a meeting between Ventura and a hit man. At the meeting, Ventura is surprised to find that he knows the man. It's his old friend John Deray. He accepts the order for the sum of $ 50,000.

Deray courters Brizard's beautiful daughter to win the family's trust.

Ventura learns of an imminent drug delivery.

Brizard finds out Deray's real field of activity and now seeks his life.

Deray and Ventura jointly plan to get Brizard out of the way while inspecting the shipment. Briac destroys this plan by trying to kill Brizard and steal the drugs. Briac and Deray die in the firefight that follows, but Brizard escapes. Ventura can finally track down Brizard and kill him.

Reviews

"Tension-free, brutal gangster film in which the police ruthlessly resort to violence."

“Even if the streets and bridges of Paris, the metro and the port district of Marseilles have been staged in an extremely attractive way, the script by Judd Bernard, who also produced the film, hardly explores the depths of the characters. In addition, director Robert Parrish is ultimately primarily concerned with a fast-paced production. "

“The habitual storyline: a tough cop, corrupt colleagues, a drug delivery, a hit man… varies through the move from Paris to Marseille, Quinn's role as a major embassy worker, and the fact that his best buddy is a hit man who is after supposedly honorable and untouchable members of society. Despite the routine situation and a cast with no surprises from Quinn, Caine and Mason (it is Caine who can actually arouse a hint of interest in the film in the audience), Parrish manages to bring a little pretension to the plot from time to time . "

Remarks

  • Vanishing Point Marseille was produced on a budget of approximately $ 2 million and was a huge box office failure.
