The Aeroporto Internacional de São Luís - Marechal Cunha Machado ( German International Airport São Luís - Marschall Cunha Machado ) is an international airport in Brazil. It is located near the city of São Luís .
history
The airfield was put into operation by the Brazilian armed forces in 1942 with an approximately 1000 meter long grass runway 09/27 . In 1943, the US armed forces, which operated the airfield as part of anti-submarine defense, added the longer and paved runway 06/24 to the facilities. After the end of the Second World War, the airfield was handed over to the Ministry of Aviation in 1946. In the following decades the airfield transformed into an important civil airport. In 1974 the Ministry of Aviation transferred the airport to Infraero, the newly founded airport operator that was only founded in 1972 and until now has been state-owned . Infraero is still operating the Marechal Cunha Machado International Airport today.
Airport facilities
The current facilities have two runways and a terminal, which was inaugurated in 1998 and has three passenger boarding bridges. In 2004 the airport received international status. There is only a connection by road. The central parking area is right in front of the terminal; There is no rail transport to the airport.
Airlines and Destinations
Today, the airport is connected to numerous destinations within Brazil by the Brazilian airlines Azul Linhas Aéreas , Gol Transportes Aéreos and LATAM Airlines Brasil .
