Location of Forst in Schnaittenbach

Forst ( listen ? / I ) is a district of the town of Schnaittenbach in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria . The district also includes the Seblasmühle , as well as the former village of Unterschnaittenbach , which has grown together with Schnaittenbach . The formerly independent community of Forst was dissolved on October 1, 1938 and largely incorporated into Schnaittenbach, which significantly enlarged the latter. Only the district of Waldmühle was incorporated into the neighboring town of Hirschau to the west . Hirschau also has a district called Forst, although the forest mill has been integrated into the Hirschau district. Audio file / audio sample

origin of the name

The Latin loan word forest (forest) often stands for a ban forest that was withdrawn from common use (grazing rights, logging, clearing) and was reserved for princely hunting.

The village was mentioned in a feudal letter in 1501 as "before the forest". In 1577 a little village became a Vorst, 1602 a village before Vorst, 1661 a village before Vorst and 1773 a village before a forest.
