Forstel is the smallest district of the community Hochst in southern Hesse Odenwaldkreis .

geography

Forstel is located in the northern Odenwald . In the vicinity of the village, the border runs from the basement to the overburden ( crystalline Odenwald to sandstone Odenwald ), which is why there are numerous mineral resources here. In earlier times, among other things, hematite and limestone were mined. The state road 3106 runs on the northern outskirts.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1200. The place name at that time was Forstall . Forstel belonged to the Breuberg estate until 1806 .

The place had a total of 57 inhabitants in 1939 and belonged to what was then the district of Erbach.

On December 31, 1971, the place was incorporated into the municipality of Höchst in the Odenwald as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
