Hassenroth is an official health resort part of the municipality Hochst in southern Hesse Odenwaldkreis .

Hassenroth is located in the northern Odenwald . Geologically it is located in the Granit-Odenwald, while sandstone can already be found in Höchst.

Hassenroth borders in the north on Hering (municipality Otzberg , district Darmstadt-Dieburg ), in the east on the district Annelsbach (Höchst im Odenwald) and in the west on Ober-Klingen (municipality Otzberg, district Darmstadt-Dieburg). In the south, Hassenroth borders the Höchst district of Hummetroth .

history

Hassenroth was first mentioned in a document in 1408. Until 1521, Hassenroth belonged to the Umstadt district . 1521 was a result of the Landshut War of Succession the Palatine Oberamt Otzberg awarded. The Oberamt Otzberg fell to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1803 as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . With the exchange contract between the Hesse-Darmstadt and the Lord von Löwenstein-Wertheim on February 5, 1805, the Habitzheim office came about, which in 1806 fell to the Grand Duchy of Hesse through the Rhine Confederation Act . The lower jurisdiction remained with Mr. Löwenstein-Wertheim until 1822.

On December 31, 1971, Hassenroth was incorporated into the municipality of Höchst in the Odenwald as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The mayor is Lars Maruhn ( CDU ).

Hassenroth used to be characterized by a small-scale structure. Some of these businesses were continued as a sideline for decades. Today almost all working residents are employed. In addition, the evangelical creed predominates. It follows that the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) usually emerges from political elections with an absolute majority.

In Höchst, the local political working group Höchst (KAH), a free voter community, has split off from the Social Democrats and is now the mayor. Unaffected by this, the SPD still dominates in Hassenroth, the KAH has hardly any supporters here.

In the local elections in March 2011, only the CDU stood for the local council. Overall, the CDU was the strongest force in the district and has two representatives in the municipal council.

The population in Hassenroth has always been predominantly Protestant. She was and is churchly cared for by Hering. Hering and Hassenroth still form a joint parish in the parish of Otzberg today.

The Catholics in Hassenroth are looked after from Höchst.

For centuries the Protestant Hassenröther had to walk through the forest to Hering to attend church services and to attend confirmation classes. That only came to an end with the construction of their own house of God. On January 15, 1967, the Protestant church in Hassenroth was inaugurated and given its intended purpose.

A church building association founded in 1960 helped to realize this ambitious project. The driving force was the then mayor Phillip Dörr. The building site was made available by the political municipality. The Offenbach architect Paul Friedrich Posenenske created the plans for the avant-garde and at the time unusual structure. Two staggered pyramids slide into each other and give the church the shape of a tent.

The modern building consists of exposed concrete, steel construction, wooden cladding and industrial glass. The interior is kept simple and sober in accordance with the Reformed tradition of the community. Apart from the single-colored paraments there is nothing colored. The church offers space for 140 visitors. It can accommodate up to 200 people with additional seating. In daylight, the chancel is optimally illuminated indirectly. The visitor sits in the darker part of the room and looks into the light, but without being dazzled. In the dark, however, the electric lighting is insufficient.

In 197x the Evangelical Church Congregation acquired the former teacher's residence below the church and used it as a community center with an apartment on the top floor. It was sold to finance a new building and is now used as a residential building again.

The new parish hall was built between the cemetery chapel and the church and was consecrated in Advent 2006. Like the church roof, the facade is covered with dark natural slate. The three buildings together form an architecturally coherent ensemble.

Access roads

Hassenroth can be reached via county road 116 from Ober-Klingen (municipality of Otzberg) and state road 3318 from Hummetroth and from Hering (municipality of Otzberg).

The connection according to Hering was only created in the 1960s. Before that, motor vehicles had to drive to Hering via Ober- and Nieder-Klingen and Lengfeld, unless the driver had a special forest permit for the forest path between Hering and Hassenroth. This served as a footpath for centuries, for example to attend a church service in Hering.

The roads to Ober-Klingen and Hering lead through dense forest. In a storm, trees can fall over from time to time. These streets are regularly blocked during hurricanes, most recently in 2007 at " Kyrill ". Hassenroth can then only be reached via Hummetroth.

Public transport

Hassenroth belongs to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund .

There are three bus stops in the Hassenroth area: Darmstädter Straße , playground / pond and - outside on the road to Hummetroth - Lenzwiese . The bus traffic is mainly aimed at the main town Höchst in the Odenwald of the municipality of the same name, since this connection is also of the greatest importance for school traffic. Especially outside of school hours and outside of rush hour traffic, as well as on weekends and public holidays in Hesse, the buses usually only run if requested by the passenger in good time ( call bus ). On weekends and public holidays in Hesse, the bus also provides a connection to three tourist destinations in the vicinity: to Veste Otzberg , to the Roman Villa Haselburg and to Breuberg Castle .

There is a rail connection via the four train stations at Höchst (Odenwald) , Höchst Mümling-Grumbach , Groß Umstadt-Wiebelsbach and Otzberg-Lengfeld , all about the same distance (approx. 7 ... 8 km) , all of which are served by the Odenwaldbahn . The Odenwaldbahn provides direct connections to Darmstadt - the associated regional center - (from Höchst (Odenwald) approx. 40 min .; from Otzberg-Lengfeld approx. 30 min.), To Frankfurt am Main (from Höchst (Odenwald) approx. 1 hour .; from Otzberg-Lengfeld approx. 50 min.) and to Erbach and Michelstadt - the associated medium-sized centers - (approx. 15 min. from Höchst (Odenwald)). The primary school responsible for Hassenroth, Schule an der Mümling, is located in the main town of Höchst in the Odenwald in the municipality of the same name. All types of secondary general education: Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium (including upper secondary school) are offered in Höchst in the Odenwald in the cooperative Ernst-Göbel-Schule .

In Hassenroth itself there was a village school with a classroom until 1970. The former schoolhouse at Darmstädter Straße 31, the first phase of which was built in 1848, is now privately owned and used for residential purposes.
