Francesco Venier
Francesco Venier (* 1489 in Venice ; † June 2, 1556 ibid) was, according to the Venetian tradition, as the state-controlled historiography of the Republic of Venice is usually called, the 81st Doge from 1554 to 1556 . His Doge office was marked by a time of peace.

The Venier provided with Antonio Venier (1382–1400), Francesco Venier and Sebastiano Venier (1577–1578) three doges, as well as 18 procurators and various admirals.
Life
Francesco was the eldest son of Giovanni Venier and Maria Loredan, a daughter of Doge Leonardo Loredan . During a stay in Soria , he is said to have been prophesied that he would become Doge of Venice, a prophecy he apparently always believed in.
In the service of the republic he held numerous administrative offices, he was Podestà in Padua and Verona as well as ambassador at the Vatican to Pope Paul III. He was one of the richest men in Venice. Venier was unmarried.
Venier was elected to the Doge's office on June 11, 1554. During his tenure, numerous construction contracts were awarded to the Sansovinos workshop . In terms of foreign policy, the republic experienced a time of peace.

Tomb
His colored marble tomb is in the Church of San Salvatore . It was built by Sansovino's workshop between 1557 and 1561 according to the designs of Sansovino . A relief depicting a Pietà and a statue of the personification of Faith are by Alessandro Vittoria .
