Franz Xaver Duschk (also Franz Xaver Dussek , Czech : František Xaver Dušek ; baptized December 8, 1731 in Chotěborky , † February 12, 1799 in Prague ) was a Bohemian composer and one of the most important harpsichordists and pianists of his time.

life and work

Showerk was trained as a harpsichordist by Georg Christoph Wagenseil in Vienna and settled in Prague as a successful piano teacher around 1770. He composed sonatas , variations and concertos for the harpsichord and piano and several symphonies and string quartets.

Among his students were Leopold Koželuh , Vincenc Mašek and Jan August Vitásek . His future wife Josepha Hambacher (1754–1824, granddaughter of Ignatz Anton von Weiser ) was trained by him and was a famous pianist and singer . In their Villa Bertramka , a country house in Smíchov near Prague, Mozart completed the opera Don Giovanni in 1787 , and possibly also La clemenza di Tito in 1791 as the guest of the Duschk couple .
