Franz-Wilhelm Brings (born October 19, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player . The midfielder and defender played 16 league games for MSV Duisburg in the Bundesliga between 1979 and 1982 .
Career
Emerging from the school and youth department of the SC Kapellen-Erft and the SV Bedburdyck, Brings became German champions in the 1977/78 season with the A-Juniors of the "Zebras" . On July 15, 1978, he and his teammates under coach Friedhelm Wenzlaff won the final against Hertha Zehlendorf in Essen 5-2 . For the 1979/80 season, like his classmates (* 1960) Claus Gebauer and Jürgen Ulitzka, he got a professional contract with MSV. In addition, the players Thomas Kempe , Paul Dörflinger , Raimund Hiegemann , Hans-Dieter Mirnegg , Frank Saborowski , Paul Steiner and Franz-Josef Steininger were signed. The defender was part of the Bundesliga team MSV Duisburg from 1979 to 1982 as a supplementary player. He played his first Bundesliga game in the 1979/80 season on the 34th match day against Fortuna Düsseldorf under coach Wenzlaff, who had replaced Heinz Höher on February 11, 1980 . In front of goalkeeper Wolfgang Schreiner , he formed the defensive in the 2-0 home defeat together with Norbert Dronia , Herbert Büssers , Paul Steiner, Bernard Dietz and Manfred Dubski .
On the last game day of the 1981/82 season, May 29, 1982, with a 2-1 home win against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Brings ended his career as a professional footballer after a total of 16 Bundesliga appearances. MSV Duisburg was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga in 18th place and Brings went back to the amateur camp.
