Franz Hlawati
Franz Hlawati (born October 1, 1868 in Bernhardsthal at No. 18, † July 26, 1940 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician , Roman Catholic clergyman and educator .
Life
Franz Hlawati attended grammar school in the Moravian town of Straßnitz (1881-1883) and the boys' seminar in Oberhollabrunn (1883-1889). He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Vienna seminary and was ordained a priest on July 23, 1893 in Vienna by Archbishop Eduard Angerer . After pastoral work in Poysdorf , he became prefect of studies in Hollabrunn in 1895 . Supported by Anton Josef Cardinal Gruscha , he took over the position of cooperator of the Augustinian Church in 1896in Vienna and taught mathematics, physics, chemistry, philosophy and education. In 1901 he received his doctorate in philosophy with the work An experimental test of the Clausius-Mossot formula at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna . In 1902 he passed the teaching qualification test for mathematics and physics as main subjects and in 1905 the teaching qualification test for philosophy as a main subject.
In 1903 he became a grammar school professor for physics and mathematics at the Theresianum Vienna and from 1910 to 1920 he was a member of the board of the Wiedner girls' college and Reform Realgymnasium in Vienna. In 1912 Hlawati was appointed court chaplain and parish vicar at the Vienna Hofburg . From 1913 to 1919 he was a religious inspector in Vienna's 10th district ( Favoriten ). In 1917 he was appointed prosynodal judge and in 1918 a diocesan school council and advisory board for the management of the seminars. In 1919 he also became Superior of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vinzenz von Paul in Vienna- Gumpendorf and in 1920 with the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion in the 7th district of Vienna ( new building ). After the Kuk court and castle parish was dissolved, he became rector of the castle chapel in 1920 and canon at St. Stephen's Cathedral from 1921 . In 1922 he became provicer of the Apostolic Administration Burgenland , and in 1928 he was appointed protonotary . In 1938 he was appointed cathedral cantor of the Metropolitan Chapter in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna by Theodor Cardinal Innitzer .
Franz Hlawati was Grand Prior of the Austrian Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem from 1933 until his death in 1940 . Due to health problems of the incumbent governor Gustav Graf Sizzo de Noris , Hlawati managed the business of the order in Austria and invested Wilhelm Miklas , Federal President from 1928 to 1938, and his wife, as well as Cardinal Innitzer in the knightly order.
Between November 22, 1934 and March 12, 1938, he was a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria as a representative of the legally recognized church and religious communities . He was a member of the diocesan and state school board for Lower Austria.
Hlawati was buried in the Sisters of Mercy in the monastery of Laab im Walde , next to his brother Josef Hlawati , cathedral capitular and canon of St. Stephen.
