Franz Hoth (born October 14, 1910 in Stettin , † July 28, 1949 in Metz ) was a German SD and SS leader and war criminal .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hoth completed a commercial apprenticeship in his hometown and then worked for a ship brokerage company in Brunsbüttelkoog . During this time he co-founded the local NSDAP group in Brunsbüttelkoog , joined the NSDAP ( membership number 797.864) and SA in 1931 and switched from the SA to the SS in April 1933 (SS number 97.563). In the SS, Hoth rose to become SS-Sturmbannführer .

In August 1933 he lost his job and then worked for a fish canning factory in Kiel. In May 1934 he joined the SD main office and became head of department there. From April 1938 he led the SD section at the SS upper section Danube.

Hoth headed SD-Kommandos in Austria after the Anschluss and after the Munich Agreement in the Sudetenland . With the Einsatzgruppen of the Security Police in Poland , after the beginning of World War II , he headed the SD command at the headquarters of Einsatzgruppe I. Between September 1939 and spring 1940, the Einsatzgruppen of the Security Police liquidated 60,000 to 80,000 people in Poland. From March 1940, Hoth led the SD section of Bremen.

After a colonial course at the Führer School in Berlin and at the Italian Colonial Police School in Tivoli , Hoth was assigned to the task force under Walter Rauff from July 1942 , which was waiting in Athens for its deployment in Italian Libya . In November, the task force, in which Hoth worked in the intelligence service, was deployed in Tunisia and flown from there before the surrender of the Africa Corps in May 1943.

Afterwards he was with the commander of the security police and the SD (BdS) in France and from November 1943 Hoth was commander of the security police (KdS) in Nancy . Then from August 1944 he headed the z. b. V. Command of Einsatzgruppe H in Pressburg and then during the Ardennes offensive the z. b. V. Command of Einsatzgruppe L. From April 1945 until the end of the war in May 1945, Hoth was briefly KdS in Stavanger, Norway . After the war ended, Hoth was interned by the British and was questioned several times.

Hoth was transferred to France and tried before a French military tribunal that sentenced him to death on February 19, 1949 . He was on 28 July 1949 in Metz because he committed / verantworteter crimes in his capacity as KdS Nancy executed .
