Franz Jarnach was the son of Philipp Jarnach , music professor and first director of the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . At the age of four he took piano lessons and at twelve he became enthusiastic about rock 'n' roll . Franz Jarnach had lived in Hamburg since 1950, interrupted by a six-year stay in Italy in the 1970s. He played under his stage name Mr. Piggi for around four decades, mainly in Hamburg rock 'n' roll formations as a pianist and keyboardist. He played with Tony Sheridan , Lee Curtis and the Rattles, among others . He also accompanied pop singers like Jürgen Drews and Roland Kaiser . Most recently, Mr. Piggi performed with Ralf “Franny” Hartmann ( Franny and the Fireballs ) as a turtle duo and presented rock 'n' roll, blues and ballads in a “piggigant” way.

The tombstone of the Jarnachs

Jarnach became known to the television audience when he took on the role of the hardware store employee Schildkröte in Olli Dittrich's improvisation comedy series Dittsche in 2004 , a taciturn snack regular who drinks his after-work beer and wants to be left alone, which he usually does with his standard sentence “Halt shut up, I'm off work! " The name given to the figure, who professionally “stands at the saw in the hardware store”, was his jacket made of crocodile skin.

On the night of January 16, 2017, Jarnach died of a heart attack at the age of 73 . He found his final resting place on the Ohlsdorf cemetery in the family grave (grave no. BL64 (708)) with his father Philipp and his second wife Elisabeth.
