Franz Joseph von Dietrichstein
Franz Joseph Prince of Dietrichstein (actually Franz Joseph Carl Johann Nepomuk Quirin von Dietrichstein-Proskau-Leslie, 8th Imperial Prince of Dietrichstein ) (born April 28 or April 29, 1767 in Vienna ; † July 8 or July 10, 1854 ibid) was major general and owner of the Nikolsburg estate in Moravia.
family
The Dietrichsteiner family is an aristocratic family from Carinthia, first mentioned in a document in 1002. They had owned Nikolsburg in Moravia since the 16th century and Leipnik since the Thirty Years' War .
Franz Joseph was the son of Karl Johann von Dietrichstein-Proskau-Leslie, 7th Prince of Dietrichstein (1728–1808) from his first marriage to Maria Christina Countess of Thun and Hohenstein (1738–1788). He married the Russian Countess Alexandra Andrejewna Schuwalowa (1775-1845) in 1797 in Paulslust near Saint Petersburg . From the marriage came Joseph Franz von Dietrichstein-Proskau-Leslie, who finally succeeded his father as the 9th Prince of Dietrichstein and owner of the Nikolsburg rule in Moravia.
Life
He was the owner of the large Fideikommissherrschaft , which Prince Gundakar of the " Hollenburg Line" had formed from his possessions with the imperial approval of October 22, 1689 and bequeathed it to the younger "Nikolsburg Line" in 1690, which also came into the possession of the inheritance office .
As an Imperial and Royal Chamberlain and Real Privy Councilor , he served in the Austrian Army as Major General and in 1800 concluded the Parsdorf Armistice with Jean Victor Moreau . In 1796 he became a knight of the Maria Theresa Order .
In 1809 he became the chief steward of Archduke Franz IV of Austria-Este , later Duke of Modena , and then acted as court commissioner in the enemy-occupied part of Galicia until the Congress of Vienna .
As a benefactor of the poor in the city of Vienna, he was made an honorary citizen. In 1815 he was accepted into the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt .
As owner of the rulership of Neuravensburg in the Württemberg Oberamt Wangen , he was a member of the state assemblies of the Kingdom of Württemberg from 1815 to 1819 and of the First Chamber of the Württemberg estates from 1820 to 1829 . With the sale of the rule to Württemberg, the mandate in the Chamber in Stuttgart expired in July 1829, where he was never personally present, but instead was represented by other members of the Chamber.
Today his political views can be described as liberal and progressive. The prince led an unconventional, free life and had several illegitimate children, including the famous pianist Sigismund Thalberg .
