Franz Lechner (born July 10, 1900 in Kolsass , Innsbruck-Land district , Tyrol ; † February 11, 1975 in Innsbruck , Tyrol) was an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and two-time President of the Austrian Federal Council .

Life

After visiting the elementary school and the high schools in Brixen and Hall in Tyrol , he studied law at the University of Innsbruck and graduated in 1923 with the promotion of Doctor of Law from. He completed a subsequent study of agricultural science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna in 1928 as a graduate engineer. He then worked as director of the Tyrolean Chamber of Agriculture.

After the end of the Second World War , he began a political career in the ÖVP and was initially a member of the Tyrolean state parliament from 1945 to 1949 .

In addition, he became a member of the Federal Council on March 7, 1946 and belonged to this during the V. and VI. Legislative period until May 18, 1954. During this time he was President of the Federal Council twice, on the one hand from July 1 to December 31, 1949, and on the other from January 1, 1954 until he left the Federal Council on May 18, 1954.
