Anton Brugger (politician)

Anton Brugger (born November 2, 1912 in Schlaiten , Tyrol ; † October 30, 1999 in Innsbruck , Tyrol ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Anton Brugger, who grew up in Schlaiten in East Tyrol, also attended the one-year elementary school here . This was followed by civil and middle school in Lienz and the School of the Franciscans in Hall in Tirol on which Brugger also graduated . Brugger studied law and political science at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna . From 1936 to 1972 was a member of the Catholic student union AV Austria Innsbruck in the ÖCV . In 1938 he made his doctorate . After that he was a brief professional judge .

During the First Republic , Brugger was a member of the Patriotic Front . His admission to the NSDAP took place on January 1st, 1940. He was assigned the membership number 7,894,167. During the Second World War , Brugger was a medical soldier in the Wehrmacht for five years .

After the war, Brugger was one of the founding members of the Tyrolean ÖVP. In 1946 he became director of the Tyrolean farmers' association , which he headed until 1976. During the same period he was editor-in-chief of the Tiroler Bauernzeitung .

On May 18, 1954, he entered the Federal Council in Vienna as a Tyrolean delegate . Brugger was initially only a member of this group for eight days, until May 26, 1954. During this time, he also presided over the state chamber as President of the Federal Council . After an eleven-year hiatus, Brugger returned to the Federal Council as a member in November 1965. This time, however, he was Federal Councilor for five years until October 1970. In the second half of 1967 Brugger held the office of President of the Federal Council again.
