Franz Mikorey (born December 30, 1907 in Dessau , † September 17, 1986 in Munich ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Franz Mikorey spent his childhood in Partenkirchen and attended the local wood carving school. From 1925 to 1930 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Josef Wackerle , with whom he was a lifelong friend. He had a studio in Bogenhausen .

During the time of National Socialism , Mikorey's works were regularly represented in the Great German Art Exhibition . B. 1942 with the relief sun god .

After the Second World War, Mikorey u. a. President of the Munich Secession, which was re-established in 1946, and member of the large art exhibition at Haus der Kunst München e. V. In 1969 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit .

Mikorey's father was the general music director Franz Mikorey , his grandfather the opera singer Max Mikorey (1850-1907). The psychiatrist Max Mikorey (1899–1977) was his oldest brother.

Franz Mikorey died in Munich in 1986 and is buried in the Solln cemetery.

Mikorey worked figuratively in stone, bronze and wood. Typical motifs of his sculptures are animals, often horses. In addition to large reliefs and sculptures in public spaces, he created miniatures and numerous portraits of well-known contemporaries. Those portrayed included Rupprecht von Bayern , Richard Strauss , Hans Pfitzner , Carl Orff , Richard Riemerschmid , Feodor Lynen , Fritz Kortner , Adolf Hartmann , Johannes Steinhoff , Josef Ratzinger , Peter von Siemens and Rolf Rodenstock .
