Franz Ruf (police officer)

Franz Ruf (born December 16, 1968 in Tamsweg ) is an Austrian police officer and was State Police Director for the State of Salzburg from September 2012 . He has been Director General for Public Security since July 1, 2020 .

Career

Ruf began his service as a gendarmerie officer at the Hallein post in 1989 , initially as a dedicated officer. From 1993 he studied law alongside his professional activity and in July 1996 was appointed civil servant at the Hallein post. In July 2000 he graduated as Mag. Iur. In October 2001, he graduated as Dr. iur . In April 2001 he moved to the St. Johann im Pongau district administration as head of the traffic and police group, and on July 1, 2005, he was deputy state police commander for Salzburg. From February 2008 he has been in charge of the Salzburg Security Directorate on an interim basis and took over its management on June 1, 2009. As part of the security agencies-restructuring in 2012 he was sent to the approval of Provincial Governor Gabi Burgstaller appointed on September 1, 2012 as the National Police Director of Salzburg.

Ruf completed several training courses and studying for Master ( MA ) "Strategic Security Management" at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt .

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer appointed him in February 2020 as project manager for the reform of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (BVT). On June 18, 2020, Ruf was presented as the designated Director General for Public Safety .

Private

Ruf lives in the community of St. Andrä im Lungau .
