Franz Surges

Franz Surges (born October 11, 1958 in Remagen ; † September 21, 2015 in Eschweiler ) was a German composer and church musician .

Life

Surges studied at the Catholic University for Church Music St. Gregorius Aachen and passed the cantor examination ( A-exam ) there in 1980 . He then moved to the Cologne University of Music , where he obtained a diploma in music pedagogy for organ and a diploma in music pedagogy for composition, as well as a diploma in the final artistic examination with a major in organ. He also completed composition studies with Tilo Medek and attended various international master classes and music academies, including with Jean Guillou , Piet Kee , Guy Bovet , Harald Vogel and Monserrat Torrent .

Until a serious electrical accident, which resulted in his death at the age of 56, Surges worked as a church musician, composer, choir director and music teacher in church music training (including C exams) in Eschweiler.

Awards

  • 1991: 1st prize in the composition competition at the European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd with an appeal to all peoples - Now praise God in the high throne
  • 1998/1999: 3rd prize at the NRW composition competition of the German Singers' Association with three pleasurable sentences
  • 2002: 1st prize at the international "Court Trompeter Mayrhofer Composition Competition" in Passau
  • 2003: Appointment as music director FDB.
  • 2003, 2005, 2006; 2008: Winner of the Siegburg Composition Competition
  • 2009: 3rd prize in the composition competition of the "Friends of Eichstätter Dommusik eV" with Omnes gentes
