Franz Winzinger

Franz Winzinger (born July 22, 1910 in Hofberg / Lower Bavaria , † September 8, 1983 in Regensburg ) was a German painter , art historian , restorer and university professor.

Life

Winzinger was the son of an innkeeper. He graduated from high school in Munich in 1930 and then studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and also art history at the Technical University of Munich (THM) and at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU). In 1940 he received his doctorate for the first time with Hans Karlinger at the THM.

After participating in the Second World War , he was taken prisoner of war . After his release, he completed his habilitation in 1956 at the University of Erlangen .

From 1953 he taught at the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg , from 1957 as a private lecturer and lectured from 1954 to 1979 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg .

Winzinger wrote several writings, including about Adi Holzer , Albrecht Altdorfer , Albrecht Dürer , Katsushika Hokusai , Toshusai Sharaku , Martin Schongauer and the master of Mühldorf . His own pictures are still traded today. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s he made a name for himself as an art collector.
