Franz Xaver Dieringer (born August 22, 1811 in Rangendingen (Hohenzollern), † September 8, 1876 in Veringendorf (Hohenzollern)) was a Catholic theologian.

Life

After studying theology at the University of Freiburg and the University of Tübingen , Dieringer was ordained a priest in 1835 and then worked as a repetitee at the archiepiscopal seminary in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1841 he became professor at the Lyceum in Speyer , in 1843 full professor at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Bonn , where he later became university preacher and director of the homiletic - catechetical seminar he founded.

In 1844 Dieringer was a co-founder of the Borromeo Association . From May 29 to September 29, 1848 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly as a member of the 35th constituency of the Rhineland province in Neuss . There he belonged to the casino faction .

From 1853 to 1871 Dieringer worked in Cologne as cathedral capitular and archiepiscopal representative for the women's convents. He also published in various Catholic newspapers. In the context of the dispute over the First Vatican Council , Dieringer, who did not agree with the definition of papal infallibility , retired as a village pastor to Veringendorf in his homeland in Hohenzollern. The former Bonn colleague and Old Catholic Franz Heinrich Reusch wrote the article about Dieringer in the ADB .
