Franz Zejdlik

Franz Zejdlik (born October 25, 1906 in Voitsberg , Styria , † September 8, 1978 in Krems on the Danube ) was an officer in the German Wehrmacht and the Austrian Armed Forces , most recently a military commander of Lower Austria with the rank of brigadier .

Life

After primary school and community school, Franz Zejdlik attended three semesters of mechanical engineering at the higher technical federal teaching and research institute in Graz-Gösting . Due to an accident of his father, he dropped out of school and worked as a technical employee in a construction company.

On March 2, 1925, he joined the Austrian Armed Forces and achieved the rank of sergeant in Pioneer Battalion 5 in Graz . From September 1, 1929, he began training as an officer in the Enns Army School , where he was retired as a lieutenant and best of the year on August 15, 1931.

Franz Zejdlik was ordered as platoon commander to Pioneer Battalion 4 in Linz , but at his own request he was transferred back to Pioneer Battalion 5 in Graz on July 1, 1932. In October 1934 he was assigned to the one-year volunteer courses as a training officer. On August 15, 1935, he was promoted to first lieutenant . For his services in training, he received the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.

Second World War

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich, he was accepted into the Wehrmacht . In May 1938 he came to Schwedt / Oder to the pioneer battalion 32 (motorized) of the 2nd infantry division (motorized), the later 12th Panzer Division . On June 1, 1938, he was promoted to captain .

After several posts in a tank division as a company commander and battalion commander, he became the commander of a grenadier regiment. This was followed by other functions in Army Group C as a clerk to the General of Pioneers and Fortresses, and later he came to the Army High Command.

He taught in Pioneer School 1 as a tactics teacher for battalion and regimental command courses and then became the commander of Pioneer School 3.

On January 1, 1942, Franz Zejdlik was promoted to major and received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on April 10, 1942 as commander of Panzer Pioneer Battalion 51 of the 23rd Panzer Division . As early as November 1, 1942, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel .

post war period

After the end of the Second World War, Franz Zejdlik worked in an architecture office. On July 15, 1946, he joined the Upper Austrian regional building authorities and became the clerk of the land improvement cadastre . After completing his high school diploma in 1948 , he was awarded the professional title of engineer in 1950 . In 1952 he was appointed chief technical inspector. Afterwards he was responsible for audits of water and waterworks cooperatives.

Federal Army of the Second Republic

On June 1, 1956 Franz Žejdlík was as a lieutenant colonel for Armed Forces of the Second Republic convened and from 26 August 1956, which later the 3rd Armored Brigade, and then to the leadership of the 3rd Infantry Brigade (mot) 3. Panzergrenadierbrigade was renamed , commissioned in Krems-Mautern.

It was not until 1963 that Brigadier Ignaz Reichel was appointed to this position independently . After his promotion to brigadier on July 1, 1963, he became military commander of Lower Austria again on October 1, 1964 . He gave this post on December 31, 1971 to his successor, Brigadier Herbert Müller-Elblein .
