From 1994 to 2004 he headed the Institute for Metal Physics and Nuclear Solid State Physics , was Vice President from 1997 to 1999 and then President of the Technical University of Braunschweig until 2004 .

Live and act

Fred Jochen Litterst studied physics at the Technical University of Munich from 1965 to 1971 (diploma thesis with Rudolf Mößbauer ). He then worked at the physics department of the Technical University of Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1974 ( Georg Michael Kalvius ) and was a research assistant at the same institute until 1982, interrupted by visiting researcher stays in Moscow , the USSR and Strasbourg , France . After completing his habilitation in 1983, he received a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation . After research stays at the Argonne National Laboratory , USA and a visiting professorship in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , he was appointed to a Fiebiger professorship at the Institute for Metal Physics and Nuclear Solid State Physics in Braunschweig in 1989 and headed this institute from 1994.

After several years of membership in the Senate, he was Vice President from 1997 to 1999 and President of the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1999 to 2004. His predecessor as president was Bernd Rebe , his successor Jürgen Hesselbach .

The Consortium Technicum , the forerunner of the Lower Saxony Technical University, was founded on his initiative . He made a significant contribution to the introduction of the double degree course in electrical engineering with the partner university in Rio de Janeiro.

From 2005 to 2008 he was president of the International Society for Myonenspinspektroskopie (International Society for μSR Spectroscopy, ISMS). From 2009 to 2011 he was dean of the faculty for electrical engineering, information technology and physics at the TU Braunschweig. He has held a Lower Saxony professorship since 2011 , which enables him to continue his research beyond the retirement age.
