Freeport is a city in Walton County in the US state Florida with 1787 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Freeport borders Choctawhatchee Bay to the south . The city is located about 20 km south of DeFuniak Springs and about 110 km east of Pensacola .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1787 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 983 households. The population density was 64.1 inh / km². 87.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.9% as African American , 1.8% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 3.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 9.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 34.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over were living in 20.1% of all households. 67.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.03.

28.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 15.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 50.0% of the population were male and 50.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 39,327, with 21.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 99.12% of the population and 0.88% spoke Spanish .

Freeport is crossed by US Highway 331 and Florida State Road 20 . The nearest airport is Destin – Fort Walton Beach Airport (around 40 km to the west).
