Friedrich (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, 1814–1885)
Duke Friedrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (born October 23, 1814 at Gottorf Castle , Schleswig ; † November 27, 1885 at Luisenlund ) was a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg , a branch of the House of Oldenburg .
Life
Friedrich was the second son of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1785–1831) and his wife Princess Luise Karoline (1789–1867), the youngest daughter of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel .
After the death of his childless brother, Duke Karl, in 1878, he was appointed the new Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. His younger brother was enthroned as King of Denmark in 1863 and ruled as King Christian IX.
Marriage and offspring
On July 16, 1841, the then Prince Friedrich married Princess Adelheid Christine zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1821–1899), second daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm and Princess Ida Karoline Luise von Waldeck-Pyrmont in Bückeburg . The marriage ended in divorce after seven years, but in 1854 both married a second time. The marriage had five children:
