Friedrich August von Kauffberg (born July 2, 1746 in Sondershausen ; † December 2, 1808 in Gdynia ) was a Prussian major general and chief of infantry regiment No. 51 and heir to Klein-Katz on the Baltic Sea near Danzig.

Life

Friedrich August was the son of Kaspar Heinrich von Kauffberg (* May 1, 1698 in Kelbra ; † July 18, 1750 in Sondershausen) and his wife Auguste Wilhelmine von Loeser (* July 23, 1705; † 1770 in Witzenhausen ). His father was the princely Schwarzburg-Sondershauser chamber director and heir on Schönstedt and Berga. His mother was a lady-in-waiting at the princely court of Sondershausen.

Military career

Kauffberg came on April 1, 1759 in the Leibregiment von Anhalt-Zerbst . During the Seven Years' War he fought against the French and the Imperial Army . He took part in the battles of Dellinghausen, Grebenstein and Stangenrode. In 1763 he was a lieutenant. On the recommendation of the Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst , the Prussian King Friedrich II brought him into his service on April 1, 1773. He became prime lieutenant in the newly established infantry regiment "Krockow" No. 51 in Marienburg . On April 9, 1775 he became a staff captain . In the War of the Bavarian Succession he was present at the battle of Zuckmantel. On November 24, 1781 Kauffberg became captain and company commander . On January 20, 1787 he became major and on September 1, 1792 commander of the grenadier battalion. In the years 1794/1795 he was in the war in Poland and took part in the capture of Warsaw . On January 5, 1795 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on May 22, 1798 to colonel . Shortly thereafter, on November 27, 1798, commander of the Hanstein Infantry Regiment No. 51 and on March 25, 1802, he became head of the regiment. On May 20, 1802, he was appointed major general. During the review on June 2, 1804 he received the order Pour le Mérite . During the Fourth Coalition War , he was captured when Magdeburg surrendered in 1806 . In 1807 he was given half his salary .

Kauffberg died unmarried on December 2nd, 1808 on his Klein-Katz estate near Gdynia near Danzig.
