biography

Friedrich Hofmann was born into a Franconian family of teachers, to whom he owed his religious and musical influence. After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1930 , he studied theology in Munich , Berlin , Erlangen and Tübingen until 1934 .

He completed the seminary in Nuremberg and, after serving as a vicariate, received his first pastor's position in Zeilitzheim in Lower Franconia in 1938 , which he held until 1953. Shortly after taking over the first pastor's position in 1938, he married the missionary daughter Hildegard Brockmann (* 1912), who was born in South West Africa. In 1940 he was called up for military service and was an officer until 1945. From 1953 on he was commissioner for church music for the Bavarian regional church , an activity that increasingly included liturgical, hymnological and ecumenical matters. In 1960 he became dean in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz , but from 1960 to 1970 he also worked for the church music interests of the Bavarian regional church. From 1970 to 1975 he devoted himself again exclusively to caring for church music in the Bavarian regional church. He spent his retirement years in Roth near Nuremberg and in Ansbach.
