Friedrich Sturm (copperplate engraver)
Johann Heinrich Christian Friedrich Sturm (born February 6, 1805 in Nuremberg ; † January 24, 1862 there ) was a German engraver and ornithologist .
Live and act
Sturm was the older son of the engraver Jacob Sturm and his wife Christine Albertine Wilhelmine (nee Wagner, ⚭ 1794, † 1832). At first he was tutored by his father and then from 1820 to 1828 he was a student at the Nuremberg Art School. He also knew how to paint portraits , however, like his father, he was a copper engraver. His younger brother was the ornithologist, copperplate engraver and botanist Johann Wilhelm Sturm . The brothers especially supported the father in the work on engravings of the flora and fauna occurring in Germany , each according to his specialty. So he helped his father with the creation of the work on Germany's fauna , since he devoted himself in particular to the entomological studies, while his brother devoted himself to the continuation of the work started by his father Germany's flora . In 1826 he accompanied Professor Dr. Wagner to Munich and in 1832 he came to Mergentheim at the invitation of Duke Paul von Württemberg . On February 5, 1837 he founded his own household and married Anna Margaretha Luise (nee Zwinger). The family's two daughters died aged one and 16 years.
Other areas of responsibility Sturm were the artistic representation of the natural history of the birds of Germany published by Johann Friedrich Naumann as well as 30 panels for the pictures of the Ramphastids in 1841 .
Sturm died shortly before the age of 57.
