Friedrich Wagner (theologian)
Friedrich Wagner (born January 21, 1693 in Karow , Duchy of Magdeburg , † July 6, 1760 in Hamburg ) was a German theologian.
Life
He was born as the son of pastor Christoph Wagner (1653–1709) and his wife Anna Dorothea born. Tiefenbach was born in Karow near Genthin . The important Brandenburg organ builder Joachim Wagner (1690–1749) was one of his brothers.
Friedrich Wagner studied from 1712 at the pietistic embossed University of Halle and was then a teacher at the of August Hermann Francke founded there Pädagogium . In 1719 he began his church career as a field preacher in Berlin and in 1721 became superintendent in Nauen . In 1732 he moved to Stargard in Pomerania , where he became the first pastor and prepositus at the Marienkirche , consistorial councilor at the Pomeranian and Cammin spiritual consistory and professor at the Gröning college .
Since the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I did not release Johann Gustav Reinbeck , who was elected in 1735 , Friedrich Wagner was elected senior pastor at the Michaeliskirche in Hamburg on February 19, 1736 at the suggestion of his friend Reinbeck and, after a long hesitation, released by the king. He then held this post until his death. During this time, his church was completely destroyed by lightning strikes on March 10, 1750, and construction began in 1751.
From 1743, as a senior, he was the spiritual director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hamburg and in this function was also Georg Philipp Telemann's superior .
