Friedrich Wilhelm Thomas Albrecht Arvegh Karl von Bülow (born December 9, 1774 in Falkenberg; † May 9, 1865 in Berlin ) was a Prussian colonel and commander of the Cosel Fortress .

Life

origin

He comes from the Plüskow line of the von Bülow family . His parents were August Christian von Bülow (* 1752; † January 21, 1794) and his wife Caroline Friederike, born von Brück from the Niemegk family . The general of the infantry Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz was his uncle.

Life

Bülow visited the Berlin cadet house and was then employed in the "Alt-Bornstedt" infantry regiment of the Prussian army . He took part in the battle near Conin during the campaign in Poland in 1794. In the Fourth Coalition War he fought as Prime Lieutenant in the Battle of Auerstedt , was wounded in the process and, with the surrender of Erfurt, was briefly captured . He then joined the "von Waldenfels" grenadier battalion in Kolberg and in 1807 was one of the city's defenders of the strategically important grenadier hill. Bülow was wounded again and was awarded the order Pour le Mérite for his behavior .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Bülow was taken over as a captain in the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment .

During the Wars of Liberation he stormed Halle with his grenadier battalion , where he conquered the stone gate on May 2, 1813 and penetrated the city. Furthermore, it was able to distinguish itself at Dennewitz and received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of Saint Anna II. Class.

On October 3, 1815, Bülow was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1819 to colonel. In 1819 he was transferred to the Küstrin Fortress as commandant and on December 19, 1828, he was appointed commandant of Cosel. In 1831 he was retired because of the long-term effects of his wounds. Then he worked as a writer. In 1857, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the award, he received the crown of the Order Pour le Mérite.

He married on December 8, 1802 Wilhelmine Caroline von Enckevort (born January 12, 1786 - † May 9, 1865). The couple had several children:
