Friedrich Egeln , later von Egeln (born June 18, 1654 in Tilsit ; † August 3, 1735 in Fischhausen ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 8 and governor of Oletzkow.

Life

origin

He came from a middle-class family and was the son of the businessman Friedrich Egeln and his wife Elisabeth.

Military career

Egeln went to Brandenburg in 1674 and came as a simple rider in the "Derflinger" regiment. He distinguished himself in the war against Sweden in the battle of Fehrbellin and in the landing on Rügen . In 1682 he became a lieutenant. In the Palatinate War of Succession he fought in the siege of Bonn and in the battles of Fleurus and Neer winds . On February 23, 1692 he was then Rittmeister in the "Sonsfeld" regiment . On January 28, 1703 he was major and on June 9, 1705 lieutenant colonel . During the War of Spanish Succession Egeln fought at Ramillies , Oudenaarde and Malplaquet and was promoted to colonel on November 23, 1709 . He was also appointed commander of the "Albe" regiment.

After his return from Holland he took part in the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 and came to Halberstadt with his regiment in 1716 . On May 25, 1717 Egeln came to Neidenburg and visited the cavalry regiments there on the instructions of King Friedrich Wilhelm I. Shortly afterwards he took up quarters with his staff in Lyck and visited other regiments. On November 24, 1717 Egeln was appointed commander of the "Derflinger" regiment. A year later he was given command of the “von Katte” regiment . There he became major general on January 28, 1720 . On April 15, 1723 the king gave him the position of chief of the "Dewitz" regiment . He also promoted Egeln to lieutenant general on July 6, 1724.

On June 18, 1727, with permission, he exchanged his official administration from Kolberg for that of Oletzko, which until then had been Lieutenant General Dönhof. On October 15, 1734 dimittierte leeches with board .

In 1680 he married Regina Schwammer († 1748) from Tilsit. She left Egeln after he was raised, because she was of the opinion that such a relationship was not appropriate. The couple had no children. Egeln bequeathed her 40,000 guilders, silver and household utensils. The rest of his property went to the church and the hospital in Fischhausen as well as to his servants. As early as 1688 he had bought the Arrende plant from Tilsit.
