Friedrich von Wangenheim (Colonel)

Friedrich Just or Friedrich Jobst von Wangenheim (* 1717 ; † March 16, 1775 in Treuenbrietzen ) was a Prussian colonel , knight of the order Pour le Mérite and most recently chief of the I. Standing Grenadier Battalion .

Life

Friedrich was a member of the Thuringian noble family von Wangenheim . He was a son of the Saxon-Gotha lieutenant colonel Christian von Wangenheim (1687–1757) and Maria Sophie von Teutleben.

Career

Wangenheim began his career in a Schwarzburg regiment, in which he received the patent for captain in the Kahlen grenadier battalion on December 16, 1740 and with which he came into Prussian service via Mecklenburg in 1742 . It had its headquarters in Treuenbrietzen. Up until the Peace of Dresden he was able to distinguish himself many times, including the siege of Prague. On May 1, 1753, he was promoted to major . In 1756 he got his first grenadier battalion composed of four companies from the regiments "Grabow" and "Langen". In June 1757 he is said to have received the Pour le Mérite. 1758 was as commander of the Infantry Battalion of Kahlden added. He was able to distinguish himself several times again in the Seven Years' War , namely in the Battle of Prague . Wangenheim was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was invalidated in 1759 with the character of a colonel.

family

Wangenheim remained unmarried, but left behind three natural sons who are said to have been legitimized by the king and who bore the name of Wangenheim. All of them were married, but left only daughters.
