Furth is a district of the market Schwanstetten in the district of Roth in the administrative region of Middle Franconia ( Bavaria ). The place name “Furth” comes from a former ford through the adjacent Hembach and, together with “Neustadt” and “Vogelherd”, is one of the most common place (sub ~) names in Germany.

location

The village of Furth is located about 18 km south of Nuremberg , 2 km east of Schwand and is completely surrounded by dense forest areas. The Hembach flows south of the village .

history

Furth was mentioned for the first time in a deed of foundation by Bishop Raban von Eichstädt in 1372. However, like that of the neighboring towns, it is believed that it was built in the 12th century. In 1420 the place came under the lower jurisdiction of Schwand and later under the influence of the Margraves of Ansbach . The charcoal trade has been practiced in Furth for many centuries. In the Thirty Years' War Furth is no special mention. It can therefore be assumed that the place was also burned down or abandoned, as the oldest building structure preserved in situ dates from 1797 to 1801. Seven buildings are qualified as architectural monuments in Furth, see the list of architectural monuments in Furth .

During the Second World War , on March 8, 1943, an explosive bomb fell on Furth, which hit the road to Schwand, but without causing any major damage. Two captured Russian officers were shot by low-flying pilots at the end of the war while they were camped in the forest near Furth and buried there near the bridge to Schwand. During and after the war there were quite a number of traditional billets.

In the course of the regional reform , Furth was incorporated into Schwanstetten on May 1, 1978 , which acquired the title of Markt from the Schwand district .

Population development

  • 1987: 61 inhabitants
  • 2006: 90 inhabitants

today

The place is still largely agricultural and forestry-oriented today. After protests by citizens who have recently moved here, the charcoal burning is only operated two to six times a year on a museum scale. There is also a car repair shop.

traffic

A community road leads to Schwand to the district road RH 1 . The neighboring towns of Leerstetten , Sperberslohe and Schwander Altort can also be reached directly via gravel paths . Local public transport does not serve Furth. The next stop is 2.5 km away in the Schwand district of Schwand.
