Göran Silfverhielm , also Jöran , since 1719 Freiherr ( Swedish Friherre ), (born December 3, 1681 in Småland , † January 7, 1737 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish field marshal .

Life

Origin and family

Göran was a member of the Swedish noble family Silfverhielm . His parents were the Swedish Rittmeister Eric Silfverhielm (1656-1692) and Anna Maria Patkull († 1720). He married Countess Hedvig Ulrika Ekeblad (1697–1762) in 1717. The marriage resulted in five sons, including the Swedish Lieutenant General Claes Erik Silfverhielm (1725–1792).

The baronial line he founded was extinct in 1978 in the male line and in 2010 completely.

Career

Silfverhielm began his career in 1696 as a volunteer with the Livguard . There he became armorer in 1698 and body satellite in 1700 . In 1704 he changed to the Skåne Cavalry Regiment as Rittmeister and rose to Major in the same year . In 1706 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1712 to secondary colonel and finally in 1716 to colonel and thus regiment chief in the Småland cavalry regiment. In 1717 he was promoted to major general of the cavalry .

Silfverhielm was raised to the Swedish baron class in 1719 and introduced to the baron class of the Swedish knighthood in 1720 (No. 159).

After his promotion to Lieutenant General in 1720, he was appointed to the Imperial Council in 1727 , but renounced this office. Instead he became commander of the body regiment on horseback in 1728 and rose to general of the cavalry in the same year . He concluded his tour as Field Marshal, which he had been since 1734.

In the Great Northern War he was able to distinguish himself in front of Narwa , on the Düna , in front of Klissow and in front of Pułtusk as well as in the siege and capture of Thorn . After the Battle of Poltava he was one of those officers who Karl XII. to Bender and from there to Stralsund .

He was baron on Flishult and heir on Traneryd and Örsbyholm. All of his goods were in Jönköpings län . He is buried in the Näsby Church in Vetlanda .
