Görsdorf is a hamlet in the Emstadt part of Schalkau in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

location

The small farming village was and is a border town. It is on the border with Bavaria . The former Werrabahn railway station is already on Bavarian territory. Schalkau is located northeast of the hamlet and can be reached via the district roads 22 and 23.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1180 as Görelsdorf.

From 1528 Görsdorf belonged to the Rottenbacher Kirchensprengel. In 1781 there were 15 estates in the place. In 1857 the place had 12 school children and 101 inhabitants who lived in 17 houses. 71 inhabitants lived in the hamlet at the beginning of the 21st century.

On July 1, 1950, Görsdorf was incorporated into the municipality of Emstadt together with Truckendorf . In 1994 Emstadt was incorporated into Schalkau.

In the 1980s, a border wall was built around Görsdorf, which also served as a screen. The border monument in Görsdorf was renovated in 2005 by the German Board of Trustees for the Promotion of Science, Education and Culture.
