Günter Joetze

Günter Joetze (born February 17, 1933 in Bad Reichenhall ; † July 28, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat. From 1973 to 1974 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Niger and, after his retirement, President of the Federal Academy for Security Policy .

Life

Günter Joetze studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg and the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg . He also studied at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Bologna and in London . He was a member of the Corps Hubertia Freiburg (1953) and the Corps Baruthia (1955). With a doctoral thesis with Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld , he was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD .

In 1963 he joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany . He was accredited to the embassies in Moscow , Phnom Penh and Sàigòn . From 1973 to 1974 he was ambassador to Niger. From 1973 to 1987 he was a negotiator in the negotiations on the Mutual and Balanced Force Reductions . From 1975 to 1984 he was Director of East-West Relations at the meetings of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe . From 1984 to 1987 he was Consul General in Los Angeles . He then represented the Federal Government in the negotiations of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna.

Retired in 1995, Joetze was President of the Federal Academy for Security Policy from 1995 to 1999 . At the Free University of Berlin he had a teaching position on conflict management . Most recently he occasionally teaches as a guest lecturer at the University of Bonn .
