Günter Klein (politician, 1900)
Günter Robert Paul Klein (born July 21, 1900 in Wiesenhaus, Strelno district ; † October 22, 1963 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer , administrative officer and politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
Klein was born the son of a district forester. After high school he studied law at the universities of Marburg and Freiburg on which he both state examination and the graduation to the Dr. jur. finished. He then entered the Prussian civil service and initially worked as a government assessor in the province of Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein . In 1930/31 he was a councilor in the police department of the Prussian interior ministry.
After the National Socialists “came to power” , Klein was dismissed from civil service. He had been employed by Allianz Insurance AG since 1933 and became director of a branch in Poznan in 1939 . In 1945 he was entrusted with special tasks by the insurance company in Berlin .
Klein died on October 22, 1963 and was buried in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf . The grave is one of the honor graves of the State of Berlin .

Klein had been a member of the SPD since 1923.

In 1948 Klein was a Berlin representative at the Economic Council for the United Economic Area (Bizone). From 1954 to 1962 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . As a Berlin member of parliament , he entered the German Bundestag in the 1961 general election , to which he was a member until his death.
Public offices
During the time of the Weimar Republic , Klein served as district administrator for the Dinslaken district from 1931 to 1933 .
Klein was appointed to the Berlin state government for the first time in 1948, when Lord Mayor Ernst Reuter (SPD) appointed him city councilor for federal affairs. After the new Berlin state constitution was passed in 1950, he remained as a member of the government in the same department and now held the title of Senator for Federal Affairs .
After Ernst Reuter's death on September 29, 1953, the coalition of SPD, CDU and FDP broke up, with the result that the SPD went into the opposition, while the CDU and FDP formed a government under Walther Schreiber (CDU). Klein then left office with the other SPD senators.
After the SPD's victory in the elections to the Berlin House of Representatives in December 1954, Klein was reappointed Senator for Federal Affairs by Governing Mayor Otto Suhr (SPD). In addition, his department was expanded to include the post and telecommunications sector . He kept this office under Suhr's successor Willy Brandt . After his election to the German Bundestag, he left office in December 1961.
