Günther Debusmann

Günther Debusmann (born June 12, 1931 in Saarbrücken ; † February 6, 2013 there ) was a German  cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Debusmann began cycling in Saarland at a time when Saarland was a semi-autonomous state with an independent cycling association (1947 to 1956). He was a member of the Saarland national team and competed for these tours in other European countries and also the UCI road world championships . In 1955 he won a stage in the Flèche du Sud and the three-stage ride from Wiesbaden . After Saarland became the tenth federal state of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957, it started with a license from the Association of German Cyclists (BDR). From 1956 to 1960 he was active as a professional driver. At the beginning of 1957 he was German champion in the cyclo-cross race ahead of Rolf Wolfshohl ; In 1958 and 1959 he won the bronze medal, in 1960 silver behind Wolfshohl. In 1954 he won the Saarland championship in cyclo-cross racing. At the UCI World Championships in cyclo-cross races in 1956 and 1957 he was 14th, 1960 15th. In 1958 he started in the Tour de France in the mixed team Germany- Switzerland . He retired from the tour on the 6th stage. In 1957 he was at the start of the Tour de Suisse , but ended the tour prematurely.

Professional

After his sporting career, he ran a bicycle shop in Saarbrücken.
