Christoph Pfingsten (born November 20, 1987 in Potsdam ) is a German racing cyclist who is active in road cycling and cyclocross . In road cycling he is considered a reliable helper and all-rounder.

Career

Whitsun 2003 became the German cyclo-cross champion in the youth class, after finishing third in the previous year. In 2004 he won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships. The next year he was German runner-up in the juniors and third at the World Championships in Sankt Wendel .

On the road, Whitsun was second overall in the U23 stage race Mainfranken Tour in the 2006 season and in 2007 won a stage at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Gemenc . He was also able to continue his successes in the cross-country race in the adult area and was second in the U23 world championships ; At the German elite championships he won silver in 2009 and gold in 2011.

At the same time, Whitsun has been driving for the Dutch Continental Team Van Vliet EBH Elshof since 2010 . He won a stage at the Ringerike Grand Prix in 2010 and the Flèche du Sud prologue in 2014 , which he finished fourth overall. At the end of the season, he switched to the German Professional Continental Team Bora-Argon18 , later the UCI WorldTeam Bora-hans-grohe , in order to concentrate fully on the road.

For his new team, Whitsun was tenth in the mass sprint of the Scheldeprij 2015 and fifth in the overall ranking of the Tour of Denmark in 2016 , both competitions in the hors category . He also contested his first Grand Tour with the Vuelta a España in 2016 and finished the tour 75th overall. At the Giro d'Italia in 2018 , he finished on the 18th stage of a 12-man breakaway group out, which had formed the beginning of the day's stage, at the summit finish at Prato Nevoso in fourth place with about a minute behind.

After the contract with Bora-hansgrohe , which was due to expire in the 2018 season, was initially not to be extended, the contractual relationship finally ended at the end of the 2019 season and at Pentecost he switched to the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma .
