Jens Schwedler (born February 8, 1968 in Neumünster ) is a former German cross-country and road cyclist and today's sports director and trainer .

Athletic career

Jens Schwedler started cycling in 1977. In 1986 he was ninth at the Junior World Championships in cyclo-cross. In 1997 he finished 13th at the Mountain Bike World Championships . In 2002 and 2005 he was the German elite champion in cyclo-cross racing.

At the end of 2005, Schwedler ended his career as an active elite athlete, but started again in German and World Championships in cyclo-cross country from 2008, including in the Masters class. In 2009 and 2010 he was Masters World Champion (age group 40-44) in cyclo-cross racing, and in 2011 Vice World Champion.

Professional

Since the end of the 1990s, Schwedler has trained as the sporting director of the Stevens Racing Team Hamburg's youngsters in cycling up to world championships, including riders like Johannes Sickmüller, Ole Quast and Malte Urban . He is publicly active in promoting cyclocross in Germany and appears as a cycling expert in magazines such as Focus or Roadbike . Schwedler originally completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk.

Doping allegations

On October 6, 2006 it was announced that Tilman Steinmeier , the long-time doctor of the Hamburg cross team Stevens-Racing , is said to have provided three drivers of the team (Schwedler, Fabian Brzezinski and Johannes Sickmüller ) with EPO , Andriol and Synacthen. Sickmüller , on the other hand , missed training controls by NADA , and on the other hand, tests showed that a urine sample he had delivered could not have come from him, so that manipulation was suspected. In January 2012 it became known that the Antidoping Commission of the Federation of German Cyclists (BDR) had called for the three athletes to be punished, but the Federal Sports Arbitration Court of the BDR had dropped the three proceedings in January.
