Günther Saßmannshausen

Günther Saßmannshausen (born June 3, 1930 in Weidenau , † November 21, 2010 in Hanover ) was a geologist and manager . From 1972 to 1988 he was CEO of Preussag AG in Hanover.

Life

Günther Saßmannshausen studied geology at the University of Tübingen and RWTH Aachen University and earned a living in the meantime, among other things, through his work underground.

Act

Immediately after graduating in 1955, he began working as a deposit geologist at the state-owned Prussian Mining and Hütten-AG (Preussag). In 1960 he became director for the oil and gas business, eight years later a member of the board and in 1972 he was chairman of the board. He continued the privatization of the company and trimmed the group for profitability. In 1988 he left at his own request. In 1989 he took over the management of the Federal Railways Government Commission for the privatization of the Deutsche Bundesbahn , became first chairman of the new supervisory board and later honorary chairman. He remained connected to Preussag on the supervisory board until 2002, where he accompanied the conversion to the TUI travel company. He was also a member of the supervisory board and shareholder of Heraeus Holding GmbH . Saßmannshausen was temporarily chairman of the supervisory board of Salzgitter AG and a member of the supervisory board of several companies, including Deutsche Shell , Continental , Vereinigte Aluminum-Werke , Volkswagen AG (1987–2001) and Ruhrgas and KfW . He was chairman of the metal trade association, the WEG and on the board of the BDI .

Varia

In Hanover, Saßmannshausen was involved in the Lower Saxony Foundation and in the Friends of Hanover .

Saßmannshausen was married and had four children.
