The NBC service is generally a task of the authorities and organizations with safety tasks in the context of NBC protection . The military counterpart to the civil NBC service is NBC defense .

ABC service in accordance with federal regulations

In the past, the ABC-Dienst (ABCDi) was a nationally defined disaster control service in Germany. It was used to determine dangers of an atomic, biological or chemical nature as well as decontamination . Corresponding trains were the backbone of this specialist service . Each ABC train (ABCZ) consisted of a platoon , an exploration group, a decontamination group P (for people) and a decontamination group G (for equipment). The total strength was 42 forces, including a platoon leader , a platoon leader, three group leaders (one for each of the above group), six squad leaders and 31 helpers (including 16 explicit NBC helpers).

As a rule, vehicles specially procured by the federal government and made available to the municipalities belonged to this specialist service: The eight-person train troop comprised a train troop vehicle , a station wagon and a motorcycle. The exploration group occupied two AC exploration vehicles (AC-ErkKW, each with four seats). Decontamination group P owned a station wagon, a multi-purpose decontamination vehicle (DMF) with a decontamination trailer (EA) and a tanker (TW 30) with 3000 liters of drinking water. The station wagon was equipped with, among other things, a reporting bag, some medical supplies, a dose rate meter as well as detection equipment for chemical agents. It had eight seats, whereby according to STAN only seven seats were available. Decontamination group G consisted of 12 emergency services. This sub-unit also had a station wagon, which, however, had a somewhat larger load (ABC marking equipment and an explosion-proof lamp). Furthermore, this group had a truck with ABC detection and decontamination equipment as well as another TW 30.

The usually volunteer staff was recruited locally. This specialist service emerged from the former NBC specialist service of the air raid auxiliary service . Some of these units were set up as control units . However, there were also ABC helpers outside of the ABC specialist service.

Current situation

The federal STAN requirements have since expired. The ABC service is therefore now essentially determined by state law. The state of Hesse speaks of GABC units or GABC trains .

In the meantime, the units of the ABC service have been integrated almost across the board into other aid organizations: ABC missions are regularly carried out by special units such as B. the ABC trains or dangerous goods trains (mostly located at fire brigades ) and the rapid action groups dangerous substances and goods processed. In the past, the THW also had so-called special rescue units ABC . As vehicles today, for example, are trolley decontamination personnel (GW Dekon P) , CBRN reconnaissance car (CBRN ErkW) , Messleitwagen (MLW) , other measuring vehicles , equipment car respiratory protection / radiation protection (GW-A / S) and trolley dangerous goods (HazMat) used .
