Gamerschwang is a suburb of the large district town of Ehingen (Danube) in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg . The place was incorporated into Ehingen in 1972. The mayor is currently (2010) Josef Stiehle.

history

"Gamenesuuanc" was mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century. A noble family who chose their name after the place was mentioned in the 12th and 13th centuries. She was one of the servants of the Count von Berg . Presumably their castle took the place of the Raßler'schen Castle built in 1760/70. The Counts of Berg had sovereignty over Gamerschwang. In 1343 this right passed to Austria.

The Counts of Helfenstein and later the Counts of Werdenberg and von Fürstenberg enfeoffed various families with local rule and castle. These families included the Sefler von Ulm, the Lords von Reischach and the Krafft von Ulm.

The Kraffts sold Gamerschwang in 1435 to the Lords of Rails. They lived here after 1441. Several families held the place before it passed to the patrician family Raßler as a fief in 1661. The Raßler called themselves Raßler von Gamerschwang from their elevation to the imperial baron status in 1681 . At that time the place belonged to the knight canton of Danube. After 1805 Gamerschwang belonged to Württemberg . In 1810/11 it was subordinate to the Nasgenstadt Mayor's Office, but later became independent.

The Gamerschwanger chapel, first mentioned in 1353, was only a branch of the Nasgenstadt parish . In 1469 a chaplaincy was founded. Gamerschwang had been an independent parish since 1875/76. The current parish church dates from 1689, but in 1870 the nave was extended to the west. The tower has also been rebuilt. The patron saint of the parish church is Saint Nicholas.
