Altsteusslingen (with the hamlet Briel) is a district of the large district town Ehingen (Donau) in the Alb-Donau district in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg . The former community was incorporated into Ehingen in 1972. The sub-town Altsteusslingen is a place in the sense of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code with its own local council and mayor .
history
The village of Altsteusslingen was named as Stiozaringas as early as 776 and was the eponymous seat of the noble free von Steusslingen . The archbishops of Cologne († 1075) and Werner von Magdeburg († 1078) belong to this family. Anno was probably born in Altsteusslingen and canonized in 1183.
In 1270 Egilolf von Steusslingen transferred all of his own property to the Counts of Württemberg , who enfeoffed him and his descendants with them for eternity . The castles Altsteusslingen and Neusteusslingen belonged to the Steusslingen rule .
The von Freyberg family became the heirs of the von Steusslingen family at the beginning of the 14th century . The Steussling territory was later divided into the two areas of Alt- and Neusteusslingen. The village of Altsteusslingen (with Briel and Altsteusslingen Castle) came into the hands of citizens of Ehingen in 1391. The Ehinger Spital had been the owner of this part since the 15th century, and the city of Ehingen was enfeoffed with lower and higher or blood jurisdiction. The northern part of the Steussling territory remained in the hands of the von Freyberg family, namely the so-called line of the "Freyberg to Neusteusslingen". The center of this rule was Neusteusslingen Castle. This line died out in 1581 with Hans Pankraz von Freyberg in the male line, whereupon Württemberg, who had been the highest feudal lord since 1270, withdrew the fief, which ignited a violent legal dispute. In 1806 Altsteusslingen came to the Oberamt Ehingen in the Kingdom of Württemberg , and in 1938 to the district of Ehingen .
The Altsteusslinger village church St. Martin was mentioned like the place in the year 776, it was verifiably a parish church from the year 1152 on. The Gothic choir was taken over from the previous building, the other components, however, date from the years 1756/59. The tower was renewed in 1970 based on the old model.
The Altsteusslingen community was incorporated into Ehingen on October 1, 1972.
